There is a fair bit of Horopito around these days.
It is being used in rubs, natural peppers - sprinkled on fancy biscuits etc...
And what Horopito's flavour?
Well it is a beautiful spicy earthy flavour - with one serious catch - it is bloody hot!
It is also a dangerous heat - a creeping one.
Sucking on a fresh leave - it goes from - hmmm this Horopito tastes like well any old raw leaf... to.... hmmm yes this leaf stuff is getting hot... dammed hot.... OMG even hotter!!
It is an interesting - almost primitive pepper flavour.
If you are lucky enough to have access to some Horopito bushes - throw a few leaves in your casserole - instead of using pepper - just lovely!
